Applies To
turntbl.com (web application)

turntbl respects intellectual property rights and expects all users of the Platform to do the same. This policy explains how turntbl handles copyright infringement claims under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. § 512, and how content creators and rights holders may request removal of infringing content.

turntbl is a music rating and social commentary platform. We do not host, upload, stream, or distribute audio files or music recordings. The content on our Platform consists of user-generated text (ratings, reviews, comments), music metadata sourced from licensed third-party providers, and album artwork. Our DMCA process applies to any content on the Platform that you believe infringes your copyright.

01Reporting Copyright Infringement — Takedown Notice

If you are a copyright owner (or authorized to act on behalf of a copyright owner) and you believe that content on turntbl infringes your copyright, you may submit a written DMCA takedown notice to our Copyright Agent.

Important: Submitting a false or misleading DMCA notice may expose you to legal liability, including damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). Only submit a notice if you have a good-faith belief that the use is infringing.

1.1 How to Reach Our Copyright Agent

turntbl Copyright Agent
Subject line: DMCA Takedown Notice
Web form: turntbl.com/dmca

We accept DMCA notices by email. Please do not submit notices about content you do not own or do not have authorization to act on behalf of.

1.2 Required Elements of a Valid Takedown Notice

To be valid under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), your written notice must include ALL of the following:

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work: Describe the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed. If multiple works are covered by a single notice, provide a representative list.
  2. Identification of the infringing material: Provide sufficient information to locate the allegedly infringing content on turntbl, including the specific URL(s) or page(s) where the content appears.
  3. Your contact information: Your full legal name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  4. Good faith statement: A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  5. Accuracy statement: A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf.
  6. Signature: Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full legal name constitutes an electronic signature).

Incomplete notices will not be processed. Please ensure all six elements are included before submitting.

02Our Response to Valid Takedown Notices

Upon receipt of a complete and valid DMCA takedown notice, turntbl will:

  • Review the notice promptly and in good faith.
  • Remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing content as soon as reasonably practicable.
  • Notify the user who posted the content that it has been removed and provide them a copy of the notice (with your personal contact information redacted where practicable).
  • Inform the user of their right to submit a counter-notice.

We aim to process valid notices within 5–10 business days of receipt.

03Counter-Notice — Disputing a Takedown

If your content was removed in response to a DMCA notice and you believe the removal was made in error or misidentification, you may submit a written counter-notice to our Copyright Agent.

Important: Submitting a false counter-notice may expose you to legal liability. Only submit a counter-notice if you have a good-faith belief that the content was removed by mistake or misidentification.

3.1 Required Elements of a Valid Counter-Notice

Your counter-notice must include ALL of the following under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3):

  1. Identification of the removed content: Describe the content that was removed and the URL(s) where it appeared before removal.
  2. Statement under penalty of perjury: A statement that you have a good faith belief that the content was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  3. Your consent to jurisdiction: A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if outside the U.S., any judicial district in which turntbl may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who submitted the original takedown notice.
  4. Your contact information: Your full legal name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. Signature: Your physical or electronic signature.

3.2 Our Response to a Counter-Notice

Upon receipt of a valid counter-notice, we will:

  • Forward a copy of the counter-notice to the original complainant.
  • Inform the complainant that we will restore the removed content within 10–14 business days unless the complainant notifies us that they have filed a court action seeking an order to prevent the alleged infringement.
  • Restore the content within 10–14 business days if we do not receive notice of court action from the complainant.

04Repeat Infringer Policy

In accordance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(i), turntbl maintains a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who are repeat infringers of intellectual property rights.

We track DMCA notices associated with user accounts. Users who receive multiple valid takedown notices, or who demonstrate a pattern of infringing behavior, may have their accounts permanently suspended without further warning. This policy applies regardless of whether the infringing content was ultimately restored via counter-notice.

05What turntbl Does and Does Not Host

To help rights holders understand what content may be subject to a DMCA notice on turntbl:

5.1 Content We Do Host (potentially subject to DMCA)

  • User-written reviews and comments: Text content created by users about music. While unlikely to infringe copyright, excessively quoted lyrics or reproduced liner notes in reviews may be subject to a notice.
  • Album artwork and cover images: Displayed alongside music catalog entries. These are sourced from licensed third-party data providers. If you believe artwork is being used without authorization, please specify the source.
  • User profile photos and avatars: Uploaded by users to their profiles.

5.2 Content We Do Not Host

  • Audio files: turntbl does not host, stream, or distribute any music recordings, MP3s, FLACs, or other audio formats.
  • Music videos: We do not host any video content.
  • Full-text lyrics: We do not reproduce song lyrics on the Platform (users who post excessive lyrics in reviews may be subject to content moderation under our Terms of Service).

If your concern relates to audio recordings hosted elsewhere, a DMCA notice to turntbl is not the appropriate remedy. You should contact the hosting platform directly.

06Good Faith & Abuse of the DMCA Process

We take the DMCA process seriously and expect all parties to act in good faith. Misuse of the DMCA process — including submitting knowingly false takedown notices to suppress lawful content — is a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in your account being terminated.

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that content is infringing, or that content was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees, incurred by the alleged infringer, the content owner, or turntbl.

07Voluntary Takedowns & Other IP Concerns

If you have an intellectual property concern that does not fit the standard DMCA process (for example, a trademark complaint, a right of publicity concern, or a defamation claim), please contact us at:

turntbl Legal
Subject line: IP / Legal Concern

We review all good-faith legal notices and will respond as promptly as reasonably practicable. We reserve the right to remove content that, in our sole discretion, may infringe third-party rights, even absent a formal DMCA notice.

08Changes to This Policy

We may update this DMCA & Copyright Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
